The Black Herald, Vol. I

or

The Chronicles of Alter Hammer (so called by the tribesmen who call these lands home), Casúr Nua (by Hibernian reckoning), or Nar Zaraz (by the newly arrived Rus Dwarves)

I, Darmarkbert Correw, scholar and servant to Emperor Karl Franz I Holswig-Schliestein, Protector of the Empire, have taken great pains to establish eyes and ears in the far lands of Alter Hammer – of which the his Highness the Emperor, Sigmar's Heir, has great interest in. I endeavor to chronicle the goings on and ongoings of notable persons and peoples – through my network of intelligence and interceptions of dispatches, hearsay, interviews, etc. etc., and present them, here, for study, interpretation, understanding, and for the security of his majesty’s holdings and interests, both future and current.

I therefore, humbly present, The Black Herald, Volume I:

The Year of the Fighting Bear - 2524 IC

An industrious throng of Rus Dwarves have settled and established Rus Ankor – their new domain in these savage lands. They’ve carved into the surrounding mountains and established many mighty fortresses, and also discovered long dormant holds, leftover from distant dawi ancestors, long silent.

Encouraging! A settlement of Halflings has been discovered in the foothills southeast of these now mighty mountains. The halflings of Delmyr have had dealings with dwarves in these ancient lands, generation after generation, into memory and myth.

The two peoples quickly establish trade and friendship on common grounds (and hills and mountains).

Hibernian clansmen from Albion have settled. They begin expanding their territories, cowing the local tribes and enlisting their strongest warriors; a boon to Mhor Chruach Mangan’s Saga. He will grow strong in these new lands, leading his warriors to great heights of bravery and worth.

A mine is discovered as Mangan’s banners head east to explore the wilds – the gods already weave the Mangans into a great tapestry of song.

Sea Elves are found establishing a settlement to the East. A diplomatic mission is sent to treat with them. Success! They deem Mhor’s warriors so impressive, they strip them naked and paint them blue! This honor is returned by taking the elf lord’s daughter for their own, as tribute to Crogyle Mangan, steward of Mangan’s Landing, the port town established upon discovering these new lands.

Further territory is established – the might of Mangan grows with each month.

The lands of Mangan have birthed many with an adventurous spirit – wanderers and warriors explore the wilds and come upon a region populated with halflings. A pleasant, if very small, folk. Their hills hide whispers, however, of a skulking menace. Adventure!

Kronan’s Hibernian warriors scout the mines to the North of Baile Thoir… The scouts never return.

Betrayal! Those Sea Elf whoresons have attacked the mines, driving out our workers and not allowing anyone to set foot in the woods surrounding the mine. It is like a dagger to the heart AND back.

Betrayal! The hard cold months of the winter season bring bitter tidings as a dwarven fortress falls to the murderous screeching and skittering of foul mutant rat men – the Skaven have bubbled up from the black pits of the earth!
